Boosting efficient water management through the irrigation technification program
Comprehensive water management is a fundamental public policy tool for promoting equity and efficiency across the territory, establishing itself as a strategic resource for any sustainable development model. Within this framework, the CFI is driving the Irrigation Technification Support Program, an initiative already underway in Mendoza to optimize water use through technological innovation and climate change adaptation.
The program is structured around two main pillars that integrate technical knowledge with financial support. On one hand, it provides technical assistance and training for local professionals and producers to build a critical mass capable of leading innovation processes in the field. On the other hand, the CFI offers a credit line with preferential terms to facilitate the purchase of equipment and the improvement of irrigation systems.
For those producers interested in accessing the credit line, the work process begins with a personalized diagnosis at each farm to verify technical feasibility and potential productivity gains. Once the project is defined, support continues through the design, installation, and startup of the system. The final stage consists of an impact assessment to determine the actual efficiency of water application and to minimize waste or evaporation.
Currently, after conducting workshops with technical organizations and universities, the CFI plans to extend this initiative to other provinces across the country. Argentina has a growth potential for irrigation that could reach 6 million hectares, making the incorporation of technology a strategic tool for strengthening regional economies in the face of current water challenges.
