Port Competitiveness Plan moves forward

The CFI is working with the provinces to implement the Port Competitiveness Plan, a strategic initiative to strengthen federal logistics and promote waterborne transport as an efficient and competitive alternative for regional economies.
As part of this process, a comprehensive survey was carried out of 35 public ports, 19 river ports and 16 seaports, across 11 provinces. The work made it possible to systematize information on their governance models, infrastructure, equipment, and commercial profiles, and to build a shared diagnosis of the conditions and development opportunities of the port system.
Among its main findings, the survey showed that eight out of ten terminals have modernization, dredging, or expansion works planned. This information will help guide the next steps and set priorities to improve port infrastructure and operational capacity.
The Plan also includes an analysis of regulatory adjustments to streamline cabotage, the adoption of new technologies, and the development of training opportunities, with the aim of consolidating ports as logistics nodes integrated into production chains and contributing to more efficient and competitive logistics.
